EMBASSY / CONSULATE / HIGH COMMISSION
An embassy is a diplomatic office established in one country by
another country with which diplomatic relations have been established.
A consulate is the regional branch of a countrys main embassy.
Technically the embassy building and its property are part of the
embassys country. In other words, once you enter an Indian embassy /
consulate, you are technically in a part of Indian Republic and
subject to its laws and can enjoy its protection, no matter what
country you are in. An Indian embassy / consulate is like your home
away from home. So remember to keep the address, telephone number of
the Indian embassy/consulate in the country you are moving in.
Pay a visit to the consulate and inform your arrival. Also leave your
complete address; your office address and your contact number along
with the address and contact details of someone back home. This way
the consulate knows where to contact you and whom to contact if
something happens to you.

POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATES (PCC)
This is a document issued by the High Commission certifying that you
have never been involved with the Indian Police, and is normally
required when you apply for emigration status to foreign countries.
The normal procedure for issuing a PCC is that the High Commission
checks with the police Authorities in the area in India where you had
been residing, and issues the PCC after obtaining their clearance.
As this procedure generally takes some time, an alternative is for you
to directly approach the relevant Police Authorities in India (or
request your friends / relatives to do so on your behalf). Yet another
alternative for you is to obtain a similar certificate (typed on
Official Letter Head Paper with an Official Stamp) from any of the
following:
The Education Institution you may have studied.
The Manager of the Company where you have worked, or
A Gazetted officer of the State or Central Govt.
The High Commission can then issue you a PCC on the basis of such a
letter without awaiting clearance from the police authorities.
